Donald R. Parker, CFA, CVA

President, Founder

Don founded Gryphon Valuation Consultants in 2003 after an extensive career in the investment management industry as a securities analyst, portfolio manager and financial consultant. Like many top experts in the field of valuation, he has earned the right to use the coveted Chartered Financial Analyst® or CFA® designation, sponsored by the CFA Institute. Don also holds the Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) designation, sponsored by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA).

Over the last decade, Don has been engaged in hundreds of valuation assignments covering a broad variety of industries including gaming, technology, manufacturing, retail, food & beverage, construction and health services, amongst others. He also serves as an expert witness having provided legal testimony involving marital dissolution and commercial litigation, including estate and business transactions, partnership disputes, economic loss, securities litigation and corporate restructuring.

In the area of income, gift and estate tax valuations, Don has worked with top national law firms to assist in the planning needs of high net worth individuals. Such cases have often involved complex asset scenarios requiring advanced valuation techniques. GVC often leans on Don’s years of experience as a securities analyst in developing its own research to address the increasing level of scrutiny placed upon such valuations by the IRS and Tax Courts as they demand more supportable, market-driven empirical evidence to justify minority (lack of control) and marketability discounts.

Don is a current member of the CFA Institute, National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts, Institute of Business Appraisers, Southern Nevada Estate Planning Council and is an associate member of the Clark County Bar Association. Don has served as president of the CFA Society of Nevada and the Financial Planning Association of Nevada. He is also a past president of the Summerlin Rotary Club (Las Vegas).

As a speaker, Don has addressed topics as broad and vast as his career, from economics and investment opportunities to, of course, a wide range of business valuation-related issues. He has also contributed numerous articles to several financial newsletters and publications.
