Chartered Financial Analyst - CFA

The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation is granted by The CFA Institute and was first awarded in 1963. Since then, the CFA charter has become the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world. Earning the CFA designation demonstrates mastery of the skills most needed in the fields of investment portfolio management, financial analysis and valuation. To earn the CFA charter a candidate must have four years of qualified investment work experience and pass three graduate-level, sequential examinations that include topics such as securities analysis and valuation, portfolio analysis, economics, finance, statistics and accounting. Receiving the CFA designation is a significant challenge that takes most candidates between two and five years. Also of importance, CFA charter holders must comply with AIMR’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.

Certified Valuation Analyst – CVA

The National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) trains and certifies Certified Valuation Analysts (CVA) to perform business valuations as a service to both the consulting community and the users of their services. Through training and rigorous testing, CVAs demonstrate they are qualified to provide capable and professionally executed valuation services. NACVA requires training as a prerequisite to certification to assure that practitioners have the knowledge and understanding necessary to perform competent services, and to assure a level of consistency and continuity in their work product. Users of valuation services benefit by having greater confidence that the service they receive is professional in quality, adheres to industry standards of practice, and meets a level of expertise the Association deems credible and worthy of one of its certified members. CVAs must hold a business degree from an accredited institution of higher education and demonstrate substantial business valuation experience, among other requirements.
